The 41-year-old machine operator hit 102 in last week’s elimination final to help the Durhams defeat Trevallyn – his fourth career century.
‘‘It was very satisfying and it is always good to make runs especially against Trevallyn,’’ McCarron said.
‘‘I’m always nervous until I get my first boundary but I approach every innings the same – swing hard and if it works it works and if it doesn’t then it doesn’t.’’
McCarron has played TCL cricket for 25 years with stints at ACL, Hadspen and Legana.
‘‘My top score was 118 for ACL many years ago against Uni-Mowbray,’’ he said.
‘‘I’ve played in four premierships and they would probably be the highlight of my career because they are few and far between – you can hit a century every week if you’re lucky enough but you can’t win a premiership every week.
‘‘The one that sticks out was the one with Legana three years ago in my first year at the club under Andy Gower and I was lucky enough to make a few runs that year as well.’’
McCarron retired from A-grade at the end of last season but said when Legana were struggling earlier this season he contacted captain Matty Wells and offered to come back.
But he plans to hang up the bat for good at the end of this season.
