At a cost of $250,000 to the West Tamar Council, the equipment includes one giant spacenet with sky cabin, slide and seating pods for 8-year-olds to adults, and a smaller emerald net for children aged three to eight.
Mayor Christina Holmdahl said it added to the play equipment already at Tailrace Park and was the largest spacenet in the state.
She said the play equipment was designed to develop self sufficiency skills but at the same time, have some fun.
Preparation of the site took a number of months and construction was under way on Monday, before opening yesterday.
Around $90,000 of the funding was redirected away from a proposed Greens Beach shelter shed, however Cr Holmdahl said the council was now looking at allocating extra funding for that project in this year’s budget.
She said the new shelter shed would be state of the art with new facilities, gym and children’s equipment and the area landscaped.
Budget deliberations will begin at the end of the month.
Residents and holidaymakers have since started a Greens Beach Advisory Committee, which will meet at the Greens Beach Golf Club on Sunday at 10am.
