At St Patrick’s College, the junior triathletes aged from seven to 12 completed an indoor swim, a bike ride on an interior road and a run on the oval.
‘‘We ended up having more females than males, which was a bit surprising, and there were a couple of stand-out performances from 10-year-olds Hugh McKenzie and Liana Freestone,’’ LTC spokesman Casey Mainsbridge said.
‘‘It was all about participation and most of the kids were first-timers, which was pleasing.
‘‘We had lots of parents there and helping out, and it was a really good day with great weather.
‘‘In most of our normal events the roads aren’t closed and we can’t have kids riding on them until they are 13, so we wanted to fill the gap and we wanted more kids to look at triathlons as a healthy option.’’
