WITH just four days left until Evita premieres at the Princess Theatre, the cast and crew were adding the finishing touches to one of the world’s favourite musical productions yesterday.
The cast previewed And the Money Kept Rolling In and Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, two of the production’s most loved and well-known songs.
Evita executive producer Belinda King said that after months of hard work, she felt excited to show audiences the production.
‘‘Today was the first day that we’ve got everything in place – the cast are on set with full makeup, costumes, wigs, lighting, sound and orchestra,’’ Ms King said.
‘‘We’re really happy with how the run-through went.’’
Based on true events, Evita tells the story of Eva Perón, the wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, and her rise to wealth and power.
Before one of the first Australian performances of the show in more than 30 years, Ms King said Evita had remained popular since it was written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber in the 1970s.
‘‘We’re feeling really confident and the show’s looking magnificent – it’s clear why the show has seen enormous popularity,’’ she said.
Evita will be performed at Launceston’s Princess Theatre from March 6 to 14. For tickets, visit theatrenorth.com.au or call the box office on 6323 3666.
