The Launceston boy along with his father Patrick and brother Isaac all donned their cricketing gear and headed for Launceston's Civic Square to watch the World Cup clash between Australia and New Zealand on the big screen.
Australia's innings lasted just 33 overs and the Kiwis hunted down the total in a hurry.
Launceston's bad weather did not make the event inviting, however, people trickled in throughout the day to watch the live screening on the 30-square-metre from Aurora Stadium.
The idea derived from the Launceston City Heart Project to encourage more activity in public spaces.
Mr Moroney said it was similar to what is seen in Melbourne's Federation Square.
"It was something different," he said.
"You have got to support local events because if no one turns up they won't do it again.
"I think they should do it more often."
