Rowing Tasmania's development manager Rob Prescott said the ideal weather and water conditions contributed to a fantastic day of racing.

"There was a large contingent of spectators who saw quality championship racing at its best," he said.

In one of the turn-ups of the day, the Launceston Church Grammar crew stroked by Amelia Dowling, rowed strongly and came out of nowhere to take victory in the championship women's under-19 eights race from the Derwent-Mercantile Collegiate crew.

The championship men's under-19 coxed four was won by the boys from Scotch Oakburn College in a very strong race with Hugh McShane in stroke, Nicholas Miller in three, Douglas Jones in two and Jacob Berends in the bow seat and Angus Brown as the coxswain.

North Esk had a convincing win in the championship men's under-17 coxed quad scull with the crew of Matthew Dikkenberg in the bow, Lars Gillingham, Jack Barrett and Connor Ryan as the stroke with coxswain Sam Williams.

Triple Olympian Kerry Hore lived up to her pre-race favouritism with an easy win in the senior women's single scull.

Tamar Rowing Club's Henry Youl put in a fantastic row to win the under-21 single scull and capped off a very successful day by being part of three other race victories.

The men's under-17 single scull was taken out by Jack Barrett of the North Esk Rowing Club.

The North Esk crew of Ed Kilpatrick in the bow, Rohan Fenner in two, Lachlan McCarron in three and stroked by the veteran Pat Bird and coxswain Malcolm Hall, put in a great row to win the men's senior coxed four.

The championship men's coxless quad saw another impressive win to the Tamar Rowing Club crew of Brendan Long in the bow, Oliver Cook in two, Mitchell Digney in three and Henry Youl stroking the boat.

Tamar also claimed the under-23 men's coxless quad scull with Oli Martin in the bow, Cook in two, Digney in three and Youl as stroke.

The last event of the day saw a very strong row from the Buckingham Rowing Club crew to win the championship senior women's eight.

The state championship regatta continues today with the first race at 7.30am and the last at 5pm.
