The company announced that it is now assessing tenders for a 29-kilometre pipeline that will form a drinking water system for Ringarooma, Legerwood, Branxholm, and Derby.
Work on the $10.5 million project will begin in the first half of this year, and it is expected to be functioning next year.
The water will be sourced from the Upper Ringarooma irrigation scheme, and treated at a new water treatment plant, a statement from TasWater said.
''It will then be transported through new pipelines constructed mainly along existing roadways and stored in new local reservoirs in Branxholm, Derby and Ringarooma,'' the statement detailed.
TasWater chief executive officer Michael Brewster said the upgrade would remove the need for the town's residents to boil water before drinking it.
