About 80 people took part yesterday, with Launceston’s Jack Matthews and Emma Smith the first man and woman home in the sprint [750 metre swim, 20 kilometre ride and five kilometre run] event.
‘‘We [the Launceston Triathlon Club] haven’t had a triathlon at any venue other than Beauty Point or Bridport for a quite a long time, so it was quite exciting to do it somewhere different, and we are looking for it to be an annual event,’’ race director Casey Mainsbridge said.
‘‘York Cove was the perfect location and we have got some really good feedback about the course.’’
Launceston’s Nick Clark and Anthony Manshanden finished in the minor places in the men’s sprint distance, with Devonport’s Inighion Quinn and Launceston’s Susan Dowling second and third in the women’s sprint.
John Nichols and Erin Muralt, of George Town, won the novice [300 metre swim, 10 kilometre ride and 2.5 kilometre run] event.
