ROUND 13 is coming up and selectors need to be aware of eligibility rule 3.23. 1 (g) ‘‘players shall not be permitted to play in any of the last three (3) pennant games or in regional or state finals in any lower division once they have played a total of three (3) games in the last six rounds of the roster series in higher divisions.’’ DIVISION 1
VISITING Kings Meadows caused the upset of the round, beating ladder-leader Invermay on two for 10 by a narrow two overall, to now sit comfortably third with an even chance at playing finals.
It is the home side’s third only loss for the season and the result sees it with a slight six-point buffer on an East team that has maintained second position since round four.
Nicole Smith (skip), Vicki Winley, Christine Direen and Michael Hunt’s rinks seven shots-up prevented Kings Meadow’s outright.
East bounced back from last week’s loss with a nine overall 11 pointer at West and Deloraine, with 10 points at Longford, has opened the gap a bit wider as it tries for a long awaited finals berth, something it has not achieved since 2011-12.
Longford’s Jean Holland (skip), Pat Freeman, Rose Jackson and Wendy Smith’s 24-16 rink result was good enough to protect their team’s two points plus block Deloraine’s clean sweep.
Bridport played its synthetic well to defeat North with a 62-47 11-pointer. The shared rinks of its skip Colleen Davis and North’s Vicki Rush gave the visitors the point. Of its 11 games, Bridport has now won six at home and lost five away, the latter all on grass.
Launceston came close at Exeter with a shared and winning rink but did not have enough in reserve to cover its third, eventually losing by two overall for three points.
Exeter’s success moves it up a rung to sixth, Launceston’s loss keeps it 10th by seven points and unfortunately unsettling rinks are not helping its cause.
DIVISION 2
CRESSY showed its capabilities beating Launceston for 10 to keep the back door closed and with its rinks scoring in the 20’s.
Ladder-leader Westbury took the full quota at North.
For the second week in a row Mollie Hanson and her group’s rink win, this time against George Town, gave East the eight points.
Its two winning rinks were not enough for homeside Cosgrove versus Trevallyn. It may have lost its past three games but Cosgrove remains third, has some breathing space and still looks the goods.
Trevallyn’s Isabella McLelland (skip), Pauline Haigh, Barry Titmus and Don Calver’s plus-13 rink success ensured their team of eight.
Kings Meadows moved to fourth defeating Midlands on two for 10 to give the visitors its third loss in succession.
Jill Clarke (skip), Kathy Davidson, Carol Headlam and Jeanette Draper’s rink held on to block Kings Meadow’s outright.
Despite the win Kings Meadows must be aware that if it comes to the crunch and percentages are taken into account, it must begin increasing its current rate. Midlands remains 10th by a point with a tough run in.
DIVISION 3
GEORGE Town broke its five-game losing drought defeating Launceston on all rinks by 28 overall and Scottsdale’s strong winning run came to an end losing to visiting ladder-leader Invermay for a 10-pointer.
Pat Bennett (skip), Kath Barratt, Anna Fraane and Brian Heazlewood kept the visitors from the full quota. Scottsdale drops to third and the challengers are circling.
Visiting Deloraine bounced back to give Trevallyn its consecutive two rink defeat and Longford’s Joyce Shaw (skip), Lesley Loring, Doreen Ball and Norma Jone’s rink held on winning by eight shots to get their team over the line at Exeter for eight.
The 17 overall shot difference and its two-rink win saw the 10 go West’s way at Ravenswood.
The win puts West into the four by two points. It is one position higher and 10th-placed Ravenswood six positions lower respectively, than at the same time last season.
DIVISION 4
MATCH managers must ensure that results are forwarded to Bowls North’s statistician after completion of games.
Results from some Thursday games had not been received making the ladder difficult to calculate.
Kings Meadows scooped the pool against West and Beauty Point defeated Invermay for 10 on two.
Coming off six straight losses George Town would be happy with its eight points from the one rink win of Merlene Coad (skip), Sharon Reece, Lina Coogan and Brian Barnett at Trevallyn.
Westbury, with experienced players in every rink, and only one loss to date, moved two games clear on top with its two for 10 at Longford. After three losses on the trot North toppled home side Launceston for 10.
