Launceston will resume at 4-295 after a solid batting performance last week highlighted by an unbeaten century by Tom Bennett.
‘‘It is a matter of our batsmen applying themselves and I think the key to the game is whether we can establish some partnerships like Launceston did last week,’’ Anderson said.
‘‘Something like what Tom Bennett and Rowan Smith did last week would give us a good foundation.’’
Anderson said it was important for Westbury to get away to a good start with the first 15 overs of the innings holding the key to the rest of the afternoon.
‘‘It is important that we get through the opening 15 overs with minimal damage,’’ he said.
Anderson said he believed Westbury then had the batting talent to chase down the target set for them by Launceston.
He said there was no particular batsman in the team to do the job but it was vital they spend time at the crease.
Westbury is presently on top of the ladder and Anderson said it was crucial for the team to get some points out of this game.
‘‘We moved to the top after beating Riverside in the previous game but next week we have the bye,’’ he said.
Anderson said he was conscious that Launceston was also in the search for points to try to get themselves off the bottom of the ladder.
SOUTH LAUNCESTON V MOWBRAY: South Launceston enters the second day of its game against Mowbray with a two-fold purpose.
The Knights are handily placed to push on for an outright victory and there is also the incentive to retain the Ian Young Memorial Shield.
South Launceston presently holds a 77-run lead on the first innings and has the intention of batting on for the first session tomorrow.
‘‘We’ll bat through the first session and then see where we’re at,’’ coach Liam Devlin said.
The Knights will look towards opening bat Mackenzie Barker, Tom Waller and Chris Hay to push on with quick runs and put the team in with a chance of outright victory.
Mowbray captain John Le Fevre said he would be looking to his bowlers to restricting the damage for his team.
‘‘I believe Rik Considine holds the key for us with his ability to bowl back of a length,’’ he said.
Considine and Jack Storay took six wickets between them in South Launceston’s first innings last week.
Le Fevre said the Mowbray players had undergone some soul searching after being dismissed for just 75 on the opening day.
‘‘We got out playing poor cricket shots and we didn’t put enough value on our wickets,’’ he said.
‘‘This week we will be looking for time at the crease and some good partnerships in whatever target we’re set.’’
