The state has a major schedule of tournaments either side of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
After Hobart hosted an international women’s tournament leading into the grand slam, Launceston and Burnie are both preparing to stage pro tour men’s and women’s events.
The Burnie International tournaments begin this weekend, with the Launceston events scheduled to run a week later, the men’s beginning on Saturday, February 7, and the women’s a day later.
However, the Regional Tennis Centre is warming up by staging the Tasmanian Open, which began yesterday and runs until tomorrow.
Tournament director Trent Constance reported a successful start to the $10,000 platinum event and encouraged spectators to come along and watch the action.
‘‘It’s another gorgeous day here in Launceston and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning,’’ he said.
There will be a canteen available with parking on-site.
