According to the Productivity Commission's Report on Government Services, an average of 12.7 people a night made unassisted requests for accommodation in 2013-14.
The figure is slightly higher than the previous year, when the average was 12.2 people a night.
In a response contained within the report, the government said the state was performing better than the national average.
"A number of strategies are being developed to improve the outcomes for clients of homelessness services in Tasmania," the government said.
"Housing Connect has reformed the way specialist homelessness services are provided in Tasmania."
