The Australian Transportation and Safety Bureau released its preliminary report into the crash yesterday, which said initial inspection of the aircraft wreckage had not identified any mechanical failures that could have contributed to the crash.
The Cessna was being used to photograph the Sydney to Hobart yacht race when it ditched into the water, killing 29-year-old pilot Sam Langford and 61-year-old photographer Tim Jones.
The investigation is continuing, and will include an examination of components of the aircraft, including recorded data, at the ATSB facilities in Canberra.
The weather in the area at the time will also be further investigated, although witnesses described the weather as being fine, with a light wind from the south-west.
A review of operator procedures for low-level and photographic flights will be undertaken, as well as a review of human factors.
The ATSB's final report is expected to be completed by December.
