The series sees experts hosts free events from town to town, in an effort to reveal the state’s coastline to the public.

In the past, the Marine Discovery series has been successfully held in Bicheno, St Helens and on Maria Island.

The event will be held in and around Bridport from Saturday, January 31 to Sunday, February 1.

Environment Tasmania marine coordinator Rebecca Hubbard said Bridport's popularity made it an ideal candidate for the series.

``Everyone knows that Bridport is a favourite summer holiday spot for Tasmanians because of its beautiful coastline,'' she said.

``Many people may not realise that the area is also outstanding for its rocky reefs, extensive seagrass beds and internationally significant wetlands, which support a huge range of fish, birds and marine life.

``The Marine Discovery Weekend gives the community a chance to explore what lives in these different places with help from experts in a safe and fun way.''

The program includes a guided snorkel, kayaking, `rockpool ramble', coastal bird-watching, free BBQ lunches, and a fantastic ocean film night, featuring award-winning film North of the Sun.
