Competition kicked off with a high roller event yesterday afternoon for the top shooters, who put up to $250 in the pool, with the official championship competition starting today and continuing until Monday.
About 150 shooters from around the state and the mainland are expected to take part in the championships.
‘‘Saturday will see the double rise competition where shooters get two targets at different angles followed by the handicap section,’’ shoot marshal Kim Hibble said.
‘‘On Sunday we have the single-barrel and double-barrel competition followed by the points score.’’
The state championship is decided at the end of the three-day competition with the leading shooter taking home the crown.
‘‘We have some very good local shooters but there are also some very good ones coming from the mainland so it is very hard to pick a favourite,’’ Hibble said.
