Race director Casey Mainsbridge said he had received a call from the council last year with a request to create a "Bridport Triathlon in George Town".
The Bridport event attracts hundreds of competitors and spectators to the coastal town.
"It's basically to build the community and attract people to the George Town community through the event," Mainsbridge said.
He said organisers were given two routes to choose from: one which led competitors through Low Head and the chosen course through York Cove.
Swimmers will dive off the area's pontoon and exit from the boat ramp and cyclists will ride on a track towards Temco.
Runners will race through the town's main area. All aspects are designed to allow maximum viewing by spectators.
Three different categories, including one for children, will be on offer.
Mainsbridge said the club was excited to try a new area.
The Launceston group predominantly competes at Beauty Point, he said.
"We can also attract people from the George Town area who might never had had a chance to do the sport," Mainsbridge said.
"I see it as a great opportunity. I'd expect more than 80 participants."
