EARLIER: RODEO Tasmania veteran Brian Fish was in a serious but stable condition at the Launceston General Hospital last night, after he was gored during Saturday’s Carrick Rodeo.
Mr Fish was gored and trampled by a junior beast about halfway through proceedings.
He has been involved in the Tasmanian rodeo circuit for more than 50 years.
In recent years, he has turned his focus to judging and announcing.
Long-time friend and fellow Australian Professional Rodeo Association judge Ian Brown said Mr Fish had been announcing in the ring when the bull hit him.
‘‘It just went straight over the top of him,’’ he said.
‘‘He did get back up, and put his hand up to say that he was alright, but later on after the rodeo I heard that he broke some ribs.’’
Mr Brown said it was extremely rare for a goring to occur at a rodeo.
‘‘Any mishaps like that are very rare, it’s just an unfortunate accident,’’ he said.
‘‘He’s a good animal handler.
‘‘He’ll get straight back out there. It’s part and parcel of the sport, I suppose, that there are injuries in it.
‘‘Everyone’s aware of the risks in it.’’
