Just before midnight on Sunday two men broke into Joe’s Grocer & Takeaway at Riverside and stole about $20,000 in tobacco products.
Store owner Anna Allison said it followed the theft of $25,000 worth of cigarettes three weeks ago.
‘‘I hope this raises awareness. There’s cheap cigarettes out there somewhere.
‘‘We’ve got them stocked in alphabetical order and they took everything from A to Z,’’ she said.
The robberies have also caused thousands of dollars in damage.
The business alarm was tripped about 11.50pm and the thieves were out the door within minutes.
The price of tobacco has soared in recent years following increases in taxes on the product. Launceston detectives would like to hear from anyone who has been offered cheap or large quantities of cigarettes for sale or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at that time.
Anyone with information can contact Launceston CIB on 67773915 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
