Parks and Wildlife Service business enterprise co-ordinator Ambalika Travica said the centre would host free activities on February 2 to celebrate World Wetlands Day.
The theme for the international celebration will be Wetlands for our Future.
"Tamar Island Wetlands Centre and reserve is located just 10 minutes from Launceston and is a vital wetlands managed by the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service," Ms Travica said.
"It is part of the greater Tamar River Conservation area and is an essential part of the environment, being a highly productive ecosystem.
"Wetlands not only act as 'kidneys' to filter out pollutants from the water, they also act as a sponge and help to stem flooding during periods of high rainfall. Wetlands also provide an important habitat for many birds, mammals, frogs, fish and invertebrates."
The centre will be open from 9am until 5pm throughout summer.
