Blackberry won the highly competitive 250cc class of this year's Tasmanian Motor Cycle Club road racing championships ahead of the mates who got him into the sport just two years ago.
Blackberry said he started going on road trips with his mates Will, Sam and Mike Swan about four years ago and was nicknamed Captain Slow because "they had to wait for me at the top of pretty well every hill".
"The boys then got into road racing and talked me into joining them - we all went for Italian Aprilia two-strokes so we'd have an even competition amongst ourselves," he said.
"I finished fifth in the championship last season, after my exhaust broke in the final round. We went into that round with only five points between us.
"I spent quite a bit of money in the off season making the bike lighter and getting the tuning right, so I'd be able to beat them this year - it's finished every race this year."
Blackberry said he didn't have a bad conscience about breaking the spirit of the competition with his mates by outspending them.
"I thought it was more important to beat my mates," he said.
"Racing's all about getting out there and having fun. It doesn't really matter where you finish as long as you're having fun, and finish in front of the Swan brothers."
Blackberry said his preparation for 2015 had already begun, with the arrival of a dry clutch and close-ratio gearbox to further improve his bike.
