HADSPEN international cycling star Richie Porte returned to his triathlon roots yesterday taking part in the Launceston Triathlon Club's sprint triathlon at Beauty Point.

The Sky team rider joined some other well-known names for the event, teaming up with another well-credentialled Launceston triathlete James Hodge, who is returning from injury, and the experienced Mark Matthews, to win the team's event.
Launceston junior world championship triathlon silver medallist Jake Birtwhistle was another big name who took the opportunity to return to his local club racing, teaming up with some of his family members in yesterday's team's race.
Up and coming Launceston triathlete Jonathan Butler won the open men's sprint triathlon completing the 750-metre swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run in pretty good conditions at Beauty Point.
Launceston's Jack Matthews finished second with Launceston's Dylan Hill third.
Launceston's Kate Pedley won the women's race from Emma Smith and Suzie Dowling.
The first veteran male to cross the line was Launceston's Paul McKenzie with Narelle Wynwood the first veteran female.
Kier Crooke took out the junior race.
A total of 85 athletes took part in senior, junior and novice racing.
The next race on the Launceston Triathlon Club calendar will be the Bridport Triathlon on January 4.
