To mark the 30th anniversary of the Launceston carnival, multiple world champion axeman David Foster will pit his strength against cycling icon Danny Clark in an exhibition event.
They will take to the stage with Foster attempting to cut a 300mm log before Clark crosses the line in a one-lap dash.
Clark, winner of the Launceston Wheel from scratch in 1986, is back on the bike this season and will be a popular attraction at the Silverdome.
Organisers of the Launceston carnival are thrilled that Foster and Clark have agreed to put their reputations on the line in what will be one of the highlights at the Silverdome next Saturday.
Because Foster and Clark have major commitments later in the Silverdome program, the match race has been planned for 8.35pm.
Another attraction on the Silverdome program will be the cutting of the Australian 375mm Underhand Championship.
The Australian title will feature the best axemen from Tasmania and interstate, including Victoria’s Laurence O’Toole, who is the reigning world champion.
His rivals will include fellow Victorian Brayden Myer and young Gowrie Park axeman Kody Steers, who filled the placings behind O’Toole in the world championship held in Sydney.
Their main opposition will come from locals Dale Beams, Matthew Gurr, Foster and his son Stephen.
