Bobridge, 25, has announced that he will attempt to break the world hour record in January.
Bobridge won gold medals for Australia at the Commonwealth Games in the teams pursuit and individual pursuit in London in 2012.
He thrilled Tasmanian carnivals crowds with a record-breaking win in the Launceston Wheel last year and also finished high up in the four criteriums held in conjunction with the series.
The world hour record of 51.852 kilometres is held by Austria's Matthias Brandle and Bobridge is confident of topping that distance.
He will make his attempt at the Joe Ciavola Velodrome in Melbourne on January 31.
Bobridge is no newcomer to breaking cycling records.
In March 2011 he set a world record of 4.21.4 for the 4000m individual pursuit beating the previous record held by Englishman Chris Boardman.
The world hour record has been held by some of the greats of world cycling including Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain and Boardman.
Olympic silver medallist, Rohan Dennis, has also announced that he will attempt the hour record and there has been peculation about former British time trial champion, Alex Dowsett, and Tour de France winner, Sir Bradley Wiggins doing the same.
