That’s the message from Tasmania Police this festive season.
Launceston police will be stepping up patrols with more officers in the city’s entertainment district.
‘‘Our aim is to ensure the safety of everyone and we will maintain law and order to achieve that,’’ acting Inspector of uniform Craig Fox said.
‘‘We don’t want poor decision-makers to ruin the occasion for others.
‘‘This relates to driving behaviour, it relates to personal behaviour and it relates to the behaviour of your mates.’’
Acting Inspector Fox reminded revellers that public spaces were alcohol-free zones and people faced fines if caught drinking there.
He also urged people to heed police directions if they were asked to move on.
‘‘If people fail to move on they are liable for arrest,’’ he said.
Launceston police numbers will be boosted with about five recruits from the Rokeby academy.
‘‘Police will be patrolling the entertainment districts and the alternative routes out of towns and cities. Don’t make a decision you will come to regret,’’ acting Inspector Fox said.
Southern police have also warned they will be coming down hard on any troublemakers on the Hobart waterfront.
‘‘It is very easy to over-indulge but over-indulgence is not an excuse for violent antisocial behaviour,’’ new Hobart uniform Inspector David Plumpton said.
‘‘Police will not tolerate any form of antisocial behaviour that impacts on others enjoying a social day or evening.’’
A mobile police station will be set up within the perimeter of the Taste of Tasmania for the duration of the festival.
