The Regrowth Stage will help ‘‘nurture local music’’.
The stage is set up by the Regrowth Concert Organisation, a not-for-profit cultural organisation based in Tasmania.
Those from Launceston taking advantage of the new stage include Paper Souls, who were The Examiner’s Falls Foster band for this year, Butterscotch Pony, Isla Ka, Summer Edmunds and Marty Kooistra.
‘‘This really is a chance for emerging artists to get their foot on stage and play in front of a large crowd at Falls,’’ Regrowth Stage manager Dave Campbell said.
‘‘We have a great little arena set up and we’ll be taking it to the next level for these guys with lights and sound. We will also be showing films from local filmmakers.
‘‘It is an amazing opportunity for these guys.’’
Butterscotch Pony’s Matthew Sertori, who is also the Tasmanian co-ordinator for the Australian Songwriters Association, agreed with that sentiment.
‘‘The best thing about Regrowth is that a lot of the time Launceston and Northern musicians miss out on opportunities – this recognises the talent that comes out of Launceston,’’ he said.
‘‘I can honestly say that Launceston punches above its weight in terms of the quality of our musicians and songwriters and our original music scene is as good as any in Australia.’’
