Ellis said focusing defensively for the full 40 minutes would be the key to bringing down the Wildcats.

"You know, the Wollongong game really opened our eyes," he said.

"Anyone can beat anyone. Obviously we think that was a game that we should've got, but it's really switched us on for game against the Cats.

"Unfortunately [complacency] is something that comes with a younger team. But we're over that now, we've made leaps forward this week in training. We've had a great week of practice and we're ready to go.

"We're tough to beat at home. It's going to be a grind and we need to stick it out. We've got plenty of weapons offensively and we put up scores, but the thing we have trouble with is stopping teams and we have trouble being consistent for the whole forty minutes. We go through spurts where we get our defensive goals, but then we have lapses and it's those lapses that we're trying to get out of our game."

Kings star forward Josh Childress had an impressive game last week, nearly tripling the next highest scorer on the team, but Ellis still denies they have become a one-man team.

"We're definitely not a one-man team," he said. "Chilli [Josh Childress] you know, he's awesome for us, he's gonna do what he does, he's going to get his either way. I think the big game changer is who else steps up. We've got guys like Tom Garlepp and Ben Madgen who can have big games for us, even our point guard Kendrick Perry."

Ellis is the son of Wildcats legend Mike Ellis and says that while this game holds extra significance for him he is trying to treat it like any other. Ellis is taking on a family legacy and the club who turned him down for a contract last year.

"My dad played, two of my uncles played and my grandfather was involved with Perth so it's a bit of a family thing," Ellis said. "Playing Perth] certainly does hold special significance, but I am trying to treat it as a normal game just as any other game of the season. The Cats were only going to sign me as a development player because I was staying the extra semester [at college], and the Kings we're willing to sign me as a player."

At least Ellis knows he will have his father's support, even if it is only for that 40 minutes.  "To my face he likes the Kings, but when he's back in Perth he's probably a Perth supporter," he said.
