The decision followed a notice of motion at the November meeting by Cr Lawrence Archer.
Cr Archer argued that the port area was situated at the entrance to the town and was one of the views that impacted on the impression visitors and residents formed of the seaside tourist drawcard.
``The sight of a rather large rusty derelict vessel adjacent to the bridge is detrimental to the image that council should promote for Bridport,'' he said.
``The offending vessel has been there, without propellers and no maintenance, for over five years.''
Cr Archer argued that it was a matter for Marine and Safety Tasmania as the maritime authority had previously dealt with similar situations on Launceston's Tamar River.
