When you are out of form, even a solitary victory constitutes a chance to build some much-needed momentum, so for Melbourne City the timing of the World Club Championship was not ideal, given that its scheduled round 10 opponent, Western Sydney Wanderers, was half a world away splashing around on a farcical pitch in a farcical game in Morocco when it should have been facing John van't Schip's men in an A-League fixture.
