BEAUTY Point teenager Jess Horton hopes to make new friends and help recently arrived migrants feel at home as she takes to the sea in an exciting 10-day voyage around Tasmania.

The Rotary Club of Hobart partnered with the Windeward Bound Trust and the Migrant Resource Centre to develop the program, which sees local 15 to 18-year-olds mentor indigenous youth and recently arrived refugees.
The crew has taken to the sea in a voyage aimed at building the life skills of its young participants.
The group left on December 9 and will return to Hobart this week.
Jess said she had always been a fan of all things nautical.
"When I first saw the advertisement I was immediately interested in the opportunity to sail on an actual sailing ship," she said.
"As I read more about the program on the website, my interest only grew. I'm looking forward to working as part of a team and knowing that what I am doing is making someone else's life just a bit easier."
Captain Sarah Parry said she had seen some amazing transformations aboard the Windeward Bound.
"In the process they learn self-reliance, communications skills, team work, courage in the face of fear, self-confidence, determination, living, working, playing," she said.
