Now it's time to laugh with Luke McGregor in the flesh.
McGregor will be bringing his uniquely awkward comedy show to Fresh Comedy's year-of-year double header.
He will line up with fellow Utopia star Celia Pacquola for two shows on December 19 and 20.
McGregor, who grew up between Glenorchy and Chigwell, said it will be his first Tasmanian show in "a long time".
"This is the first time I'll be back for Christmas in two years, which is pretty slack of me. Bad son," McGregor said.
"I'm glad I'm from Tassie, it's a nice thing to have.
"And whenever I meet another comedian from Tassie it's a bonding thing."
McGregor has had a stellar start to his comedy career, which began less than 10 years ago.
"I think I'm probably the least attractive in my immediate family so everyone else was good at music and looks good physically so I had to be funny," he said.
"I was bullied at school so if I could make the bullies laugh they wouldn't hit me or they wouldn't hit me as hard. So it was my go-to growing up."
McGregor has flitted between stage and screen and succeeded on both, and is now in preparation mode for 2015.
"It's that period of the year again where it's all new material," he said.
The jokes mostly get tried out at open mic nights and comedy rooms, where there are plenty of comedians debuting flops and funnies.
"It can be tricky. I had a gig a little while ago and I invited a date along and I was trying new material and it was going terrible and she ended up leaving half way through my spot.
"It was a first date . . . They were some pretty horrible jokes, I would've walked out too but I was stuck there.
"It can be a brutal time but it's a very important time for your new material."
McGregor will be away from the mic and into the studio for some time as Utopia begins filming its second season.
Based on a fictional government organisation, Utopia has captured the hearts of office workers across the country.
McGregor said it's a show he can relate to, having spent some time working in superannuation and within the government.
"From me working in government it was pretty much exactly like that - there was a lot of stuff that was introduced and then stopped, " he said.
"I can definitely relate to it. (Utopia) was a lot more fun but it was definitely very similar.
"I did a show in Canberra a little while back and met a lot of the people who work in government over there and it's just like, their work. Which I guess it's just funny that that's their work but also depressing that that's what the government is actually like."
