The 21-year-old Hobart midfielder made her second appearance of the tournament in Argentina, and fifth international, in the 4-1 defeat of Japan, playing a key role in the penalty corner routines.
It is the first time the Hockeyroos have progressed to the semi-finals of the tournament since 2009.
In sweltering conditions in Mendoza, two goals from Jodie Kenny plus strikes from Georgia Nanscawen and Anna Flanagan saw the team through to a semi-final against New Zealand at 6.30am tomorrow (AEDT).
‘‘We had a specific game plan against Japan and I thought we executed it well,’’ coach Adam Commens said.
The second semi-final will pit Olympic and world champion, the Netherlands, against the host and defending Champions Trophy gold medallists, Argentina after the Dutch beat Germany 1-0 while Argentina beat China 7-2.
The men’s Champions Trophy, featuring Tasmanian trio Eddie Ockenden, Tim Deavin and Spence’s partner Nick Budgeon, begins against England in Bhubaneswar, India, today.
