And for the second match in a row it was able to get the job done.
The state’s women’s cricket side last night had a thrilling two-run win over the Queensland Fire in the first official Cricket Australia fixture at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium.
It took a Meg Phillips catch at midwicket off the bowling of English recruit Heather Knight from the final ball of the match to secure the result.
The Roar, which did not win a game in either the 20 or 50 over competitions last year, have now won two T20 matches in a row after their win over WA last round.
Knight was the star, making 53 off 41 balls and taking 2-20 off four overs with her mediums.
The game was played in front of a small but vocal crowd.
