The independent, blues-based singer-songwriter will be filming parts of his shows here to be included in the film clip for the latest single off his Steer the Wheel album, which is called Two Hands on the Wheel.
There will be snippets from his entire national tour on the video of the song, which is described as being a "road tripping country blues number" and features contributions from Tasmanians Kyle and Dan Lizotte from Halfway to Forth.
"The song is all about driving around, breaking free and doing what you want to do and seeing the world," Kirk said. "So I always had this idea of lots of road footage for a film clip, and film clips don't come cheap these days or make you huge amounts of money, so it is hard to cover costs, so I thought I would put something really raw together with a little Go-Pro and do a 'hands-on' film clip.
"So far it is coming together really well and it has been a good little side project for me creatively, and it is a behind-the-scenes look for people."
But while it is no surprise to see Kirk in Launceston, the venue he will play is slightly different.
Usually a mainstay at The Royal Oak when he is in town, Kirk will play at Fresh for the first time.
"That place sounds like it will have a more intimate vibe, which is cool. It will allow me to interact with the crowd in a different way.
"I'm always interacting with the crowd, but when they are right in front of you it is obviously a little bit different and that will be really cool. At Fresh I might be able to show a little bit of a different side to me than Launceston has seen in the past."
