Equally if a Liberal government having inherited a surplus at the time of the Global Financial Crisis had returned a surplus in 2013 without stimulating the economy and leaving Australia's economy in the same dire position of most first world economies that too would be a disgrace.
Still on the 7.30 Report we hear Julie Bishop repeat three times that we left a surplus and Labor left us a deficit. This is cartoon politics. It is akin to the government's sharpest and brightest comparing her party with the astuteness of Scrooge McDuck and Labor with the profligate Donald.
It is cheap and demeaning and underlines why the standing of politics in this country is so low amongst its electorate.
