And it’s hoped the painting – a scene from the historic Longford Christ Church – will raise funds to help save those same 140-year-old trees.
Fifty top quality copies of the painting, Tranquillity of Trees, go on sale this week and the original painting will likely be auctioned early next year.
‘‘The focal point is intended to be the trees,’’ Lake said.
‘‘They reflect the quietude of the grounds.’’
Church warden Peter Hoyle explained an arborist had surveyed the church’s 130 trees and created a management program to save them.
‘‘Some of them have had to be removed,’’ he said.
‘‘We are now in the process of planning to do more plantings, replacing old ones and remedial work that has to be done to save the trees that are still here.’’
Mr Hoyle said the works would amount to about $20,000.
Limited edition prints of the painting are available for $400. For details contact Peter Hoyle on 63912099 or Linus Grant on 63911162.
