The lightly raced six-year-old made it two wins from two starts for Maine when he sat outside the leader before beating Mighty Jasper and Good Beginnings in the Barynya Stakes at Mowbray on Friday night.
It was his first start in a standing-start race and, now that he’s passed that test, Maine will have more options over the summer months.
‘‘The standing start was the big query,’’ the trainer said.
‘‘Other than that, I was pretty confident – he has been working really well.
‘‘In fact, I think he’s surprised Gareth (Rattray) with just how well he has been going.’’
Maine said that Hello Good Shanks was still a nervous type – a fact that hindered his progress earlier in his career.
The gelding has had a couple of stable changes and is now raced on lease by Maine’s mother, Susan, and the Grinners Are Winners Syndicate.

FORMER Victorian four-year-old Onemorelaugh broke through for his first Tasmanian win when he led throughout in the Beautide Stakes.
The gelding is raced by Ian and Brett Collins and Peter Jones, who bought him after seeing him advertised in Trotting Weekly.
Latrobe trainer Brett Jaffray said Onemorelaugh caught a virus and had to be rested after his first local start in early August.
‘‘His first run back was pretty good but he just capitulated last time,’’ Jaffray said.
‘‘So I changed a bit of his headgear and it seems to have worked.’’
The win completed a double for in-form reinsman Todd Rattray, who also scored on the Geoff Smith-trained Robert Moreau.
Mark Yole also drove a double, winning on Jodila for his brother Ben and Saab Quality for trainer Marc Butler.
Yole missed a double at the previous meeting when he was stuck in Melbourne and had to forgo winning drives on Saab Quality and Margin Girl.
Tasmanian pacers enjoyed a good weekend on the major interstate tracks, with Giuliani and Belliciouslips winning at Melton on Friday night and Devendra scoring in quick time at Menangle on Saturday night.
Giuliani and his stablemate Run Ripalong (fifth) both qualified for next Saturday night’s $25,000 Gordon Rothacker Championship final.
