It was the fourth straight year that Port Dalrymple had represented Tasmania at the service, with six students chosen to place poppies at the Stone of Remembrance.
Principal Philip Challis said the students studied the local history around World War I before they went to Canberra.
"To follow that through and to find their space on the roll of honour there is a such a connection for them that it makes history come alive," he said.
"Our kids continually at each of these years we've been attending there have been enormously present emotionally, and with information around the National War Memorial, that's left such an impression on their hearts and minds.
"Our children have been getting a much deeper appreciation of the event and functions of the government."
Mr Challis said the students visited other attractions such as Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport during their visit.
"The children had another amazing time, there's so much learning they come back with," he said.
"Particularly, their visit to Parliament really opened their eyes, and they enjoyed participating in a youth parliament."
The school has had a partnership with BHP to help fund the trips for the last four years, however the funding will run out this year.
Mr Challis said the school would look at other ways to fund the trip next year, because it was such an important experience for the students.
