Entertainment committee member Lyn Dornauf said the changes would breathe new life into the show.
"This year we're just going with a fresh new format, we're aiming it towards family and community, and involvement of the community," she said. "It's still the show that everybody knows."
Mrs Dornauf said many of the traditional features, such as animal exhibits, would remain, but sideshow alley would be replaced with new activities including zorb balls and archery.
"Interest is waning in the show, so we're just trying to flip it on its head and try and do something that's a little bit different," she said.
"It's something we're going to try and see what the feel in the community is for it."
Mrs Dornauf said preparations were going well.
"We thought we had a huge area that we had to fill, but we've actually got food and trade stalls coming that are filling it beautifully."
Performances will include Taiko Drummers, whip cracking, and medieval knights in full costume.
World champion woodchopper David Foster will officially open the show at 12.30pm.
