Falls organisers yesterday announced that Dark Matter of Story Telling, Verticoli and Ursine had won the majority of the public votes in what was described as a "super-close contest".
"A massive thanks to you for your love and support," Paper Souls' vocalist Sarah Triffitt said.
"Stay close, we may not play Falls, but we've got some other exciting gigs coming up over the summer.
"We'd like to thank The Examiner, Junction Arts Festival, ABC North Tas and Chilli FM, as well as a long list of local retailers and cafes who took posters and flyers to help support us and spread the word about Paper Souls."
Meanwhile, Launceston band Luca Brasi, which The Examiner fostered to Falls in 2012, has been added to the line-up for this year's festival.
Tickets for Marion Bay Falls, which will be held from December 29 to January 1, are available from www.fallsfestival.com.au or from Mojo Music in Launceston.
