The government was asked a series of questions in parliament this morning about its rejection of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission's (TIC) recommendation for a 12-month pay freeze and for no further job cuts to be made.
Mr Gutwein said the TIC had "overstepped its bounds of responsibilities", and said the plan would not deliver the necessary savings.
"The Industrial Commission's caveat that no further FTE reductions should be made is unacceptable," he said.
"It demonstrates an extraordinary disregard for the challenges facing the state."
The government used question time to detail a review of Legal Aid, and to announce the continued rollout of the school chaplaincy program.
