The delegation will be in town to attend a national Transport Ministerial Council meeting at Country Club Tasmania.
Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss will chair the annual Council of Australian Governments event, joined by Federal Assistant Infrastructure Minister Jamie Briggs and all state and territory transport and infrastructure ministers.
It is understood Tasmanian Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding will meet privately with Mr Truss on Friday to discuss Tasmania's freight woes and other state-specific infrastructure issues.
Headlining the transport meeting agenda will be discussion of the national infrastructure 15-year plan and audit - an initiative aimed at assessing and prioritising both existing and future infrastructure projects across the country.
Also up for debate at Friday's event will be regulatory issues including heavy vehicle, rail and marine safety.
Senior executives from Infrastructure Australia, the Australian Local Government Association and a range of other federal government bodies are expected to attend the Launceston event.
Representatives from Ports Australia, the Australian Logistics Council, unions and the New Zealand Ministry of Transport will observe the day's proceedings.
The annual council meetings usually take place in capital cities, however, it is understood Mr Hidding requested Launceston host the event to spread interstate visitation across the state.
The delegation will later attend a dinner showcasing Tasmanian produce.
