About 500 little athletes converged on Launceston’s St Leonards Athletic Centre yesterday and the Hobart Domain today for the Tasmanian Little Athletics Centre Challenge.
The events provided little athletes with a fantastic opportunity to compete against athletes from other centres as they battled to achieve personal best results in order to gain points for their respective centre and an opportunity to interact and make new friends from all regions of the state.
The Centre Challenge days are based on athletes receiving points for their home centre by competing and performing personal bests.
At the end of each competition Little Athletics Tasmania will award the highest scoring centre in each region with the 2014 Life Members Centre Challenge Shield which honours the tireless work volunteers have made toward Little Athletics.
National sprint sensation and former Little Athletics member Jack Hale attended the Northern Regional Challenge yesterday and spoke to athletes about his experiences in Little Athletics, and the great achievements he has made in the past several months.
The members of the Hobart and Launceston teams to represent their cities at the 2014 Lake Macquarie International Children’s games were announced in each region after the challenges.
