The man was training for today's Hydro Tasmania Cataract White Water Challenge.
About 4.30pm he fell from the track and required assistance from crews to get back onto safe ground.
The task was made more difficult by the slippery rocks and boulders they had to climb over the reach the man.
A police spokesman said it was believed the man may have fractured his shoulder.
He was taken to the Launceston General Hospital for treatment.
