IT WAS an extremely busy first day for stallholders at the Tasmanian Craft Fair yesterday — despite the wet weather.
Fair director Maree Matanle said the rain had not put a dampener on the day.
‘‘Talking to stallholders, they’re very happy with the numbers,’’ she said.
‘‘Today actually has been very good. The little bit of moisture that has been in the air obviously has not put people off.
‘‘I know a couple of the food vendors were just about running out of food ... obviously they’ve been caught by surprise, which is an indication of the numbers.
‘‘I think they’re very happy – they’ve got big grins on their faces.’’
Ms Matanle said Saturday and Sunday were traditionally the busiest days for the Fair, but Monday morning was also expected to be big.
Toni Ainslie was wandering through the Rotary pavilion with her two children and a friend at the event yesterday.
‘‘We live local, and we just thought we’d come and have a look,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s a lot of people here ... I’ll come back tomorrow I reckon, and leave the kids at home.’’
Ms Matanle said organisers had been a ‘‘well-oiled machine’’ in the lead-up to opening day.
‘‘We’ve got a very good committee who have been operating, or have been part of the committee for years, so they know what needs to be done,’’ she said.
