The Seattle rockers will play at the Derwent Entertainment Centre on Monday, March 2, one of eight shows as part of their Australian-New Zealand adventure.
The gig will be an all-ages show.
Sonic Highways, to be released on November 10, is the group's eighth studio album, and has already produced the hit single Something From Nothing.
This track is on top of the group's iconic hits from its 20-year history including Everlong, Monkey Wrench, My Hero, Learn To Fly, All My Life, Best Of You, The Pretender and Walk.
It's a history that has seen the group collect 11 Grammy Awards and sell more than 25 million records worldwide.
Sonic Highways is named after lead singer Dave Grohl's documentry series that explores America's musical identity.
Grohl, the former Nirvana drummer, also has a connection to Tasmania having written a song for trapped Beaconsfield miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell called the Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners.
Foo Fighters will be supported by Chicago punk-rock act Rise Against.
Tickets go on sale for Frontier Touring Members at frontiertouring.com/foofighters at 10am, Tuesday November 11 and from 10am, Thursday, November 13 via Ticketmaster.
