NORTHERN Midlands incumbent councillor Richard Goss last night led the priority voting in the deputy mayor chase.

Cr Goss sat at 34.66 per cent with 2001 first-preference votes, ahead of next closest candidate and councillor Janet Lambert with 26.78 per cent and 1546 votes. Incumbent councillor Ian Goninon sat at 19.33 per cent with 1116 first-preference votes and Mary Knowles 19.24 per cent with 1111 votes.
Candidates with highest votes in order are Cr Downie, Mr Adams, Cr Goss, Cr Lambert, former House of Assembly speaker Michael Polley, and councillors Mary Knowles and Andrew Calvert, Leisa Gordon, Ian Goninon and Vanessa Thirkell-Johnston.
All candidates except Vanessa Thirkell-Johnston were looking likely for the nine out of 10 positions by 10pm.
A total of 5858 votes were counted by 8.31pm.
