In a joint statement, Tasmanian Parliamentary speaker Elise Archer and Legislative Council president Jim Wilkinson said the incident had prompted discussions about security arrangements with appropriate authorities.
"As a consequence, certain measures have been put in place to improve security in the interests of Members, staff and the public," the presiding officers said.
Ottawa was reeling yesterday after a reservist soldier was shot dead in the second lone-wolf attack targeting Canadian military personnel in a week.
A terrorist gunman shot dead the 24-year-old reservist at the national war memorial in Canada's capital city.
The gunman then stormed the nearby Parliament building, where he was shot dead by a sergeant-at-arms.
The incident has prompted security reviews in an around Australian Parliamentary and Defence facilities.
