I too am over 70 and have never heard the term shirtfront used in any way other than as defined in the Australian slang-dictionary.org.
Australian Rules - 1. head-on charge aimed at bumping an opponent to the ground; 2. bump (an opponent) in such a manner.
Luckily the Foreign Minister's cooler head was able to calm troubled waters.
