LEGANA cricketer Casey Brown doesn’t mind mixing it with the men.
The 16-year-old, Riverside High School grade 10 student picked up the excellent figures of 5-22, bowling her right-arm, medium-pacers for Legana’s C-grade TCL side last weekend.
‘‘This is my first year playing for Legana and that was definitely my best-ever figures – I felt pretty excited,’’ Brown said.
Her dad Stuart is a wicketkeeper-batsman for the Durhams A-grade team and Casey said she had picked up her love of cricket from following her dad around.
‘‘Dad played at Trevallyn for a while so I went along to a few trainings with him.
‘‘Then I started for the school in grade 8 as the only girl in the boys’ team and just kept going with it.
‘‘I think at first the boys weren’t too sure about me playing but I gained a bit of respect from actually having a go.’’
Casey played a season of girls T20 cricket with South Launceston last year but said she prefered to play TCL with the men this year.
‘‘I decided to stay at Legana this season and give it a crack.
‘‘I’m the only girl playing but I enjoy being in that kind of atmosphere more and it improves my cricket because you pick up a lot of tips.
‘‘I just want to keep going with my cricket and I really enjoy it - the reaction you get when you bowl a guy out is great because they don’t expect it.’’
