The pair will meet four times on Sunday, with each race win worth 25 points and second place 20.
Rod Garrett is a further 39 points behind Sushames and just 16 ahead of fourth-placed Mark Delanty.
A late charge through the field of fast-finishing fifth-placed Scott Honeychurch ended at a race at Baskerville earlier this month when he fell and broke his wrist.
Things are more certain in the 600cc class, which runs concurrently with the unlimited bikes, but for a separate championship, where leader Boyd Witzerman has a comfortable 82-point jump on second-placed Robert Carnicelli.
There will also be four races each for modern bikes up to 250cc, where Andrew Blackberry is on course to claim the championship, and up to 500cc, where Tony Reece has little more to do than turn up and circulate to win.
The historic field has been divided into two separate races — post-1982 motorcycles, 750cc and above, and all other capacities and years.
Peter Booth has a 49-point lead over Bill Burford in the 1300cc Period 5 class and Dave McCullagh is yet to lose a race in the Period 6 unlimited class where he has a clean sweep of wins.
Reece has an equally commanding grip of the all-period up to 500cc championship and sits 75 points ahead of Michael Dobson and Jen Badcock who share second place. Racing starts at 9am and food and drinks will be available.
